Magnet Designation
On February 15, 2006, Kootenai Medical Center was granted MagnetTM Status by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
This designation is nursing's top honor, accepted nationally as the gold standard in nursing excellence. We are the first hospital in the Inland Northwest to receive this designation, and the second in Idaho. It is a true acknowledgement of our excellence and our commitment to continually improve the quality of our services and relationships.
To earn MagnetTM status, organizations must apply to the American Nurses Credentialing Center and undergo a vigorous, multi-faceted evaluation.
The standards are tough. The evaluation process is thorough and lengthy, demanding wide-seeking focus and direction for growth and development.
As of summer 2004, less than three percent of the nation's hospitals had qualified for MagnetTM designation. To ensure that MagnetTM organizations stay at the top of their games, they must reapply for MagnetTM status every four years.
Why choose a MagnetTM hospital? There are multiple benefits for you, your family and community. Independently sponsored research shows that Magnet-designated facilities:
- Consistently outperform non-MagnetTM organizations
- Deliver better patient outcomes
- Experience increased time spent at the bedside of patients
- Have shorter lengths of patient stay
- Have lower patient mortality rates
- Enjoy increased nurse retention and recruitment rates
- Report lower rates of nurse burnout and higher rates of job satisfaction
- Report higher patient satisfaction rates
- Have strong community partnerships
- Experience effectively interdisciplinary teamwork
