The summer 2010 program is full. Teen volunteer applications are not being accepted at this time.

Founded in 1980, the Kootenai Health Teen Volunteer Program is made up of select teens, ages 14 to 18, who provide over 25 services to hospital patients, their family members and staff.

Our application process is competitive; teens are chosen based on their commitment to excellence, customer service skills, and their enthusiasm for the volunteer program. Space is limited to 100 teens in the summer, and 30 teens during the school year.

Teens volunteering in the summer program work a minimum of four hours per week, with shifts ranging from morning to evening. During the school year, a smaller core group of volunteers offer evening escort and errand services, typically working a minimum of three hours per week.

Call 666-2511 to inquire about the 2010/2011 school year program. The summer 2010 session is full. Teen Volunteer applications are not being accepted at this time.

The Volunteer Services Manager provides guidance and leadership to the teens as well as their appointed teen advisory council. The teen advisory council provides leadership and offers assistance with fundraisers, scholarships and disciplinary management.

The annual Kim Svee Memorial Teen Volunteer Scholarship program is open to Kootenai Health teen volunteers who have a minimum of 200 volunteer hours at Kootenai, and who plan to continue their education beyond high school. This scholarship was named to honor Kim Svee, a former volunteer. Each year, the teens contribute to the scholarship fund by conducting fundraising activities.
